Our Story

How This Camp Came to Be

Kara O'Briant has spent years building a studio community at Zin Yoga Studio in Garner — a space where people come to move, breathe, and belong. But the more she watched that community grow, the more one question kept surfacing: what about the kids?

Zin Kids Day Camp was born from the belief that children deserve the same thing the adults in Kara's studio have always found: a place to be themselves, move freely, and grow in faith.

The program launched as an afternoon summer camp focused on dance-based movement, faith character-building, and real belonging. No frills. No pretense. Just a great afternoon for kids who want more than another screen.

Zin Kids is a summer program of Zin Yoga Studio, located in Garner, NC. zinyogawine.com

Program Philosophy

Why We Do What We Do

We believe three things about children and summer:

1

Movement changes kids.

When a child learns a dance phrase, they're learning something much bigger — discipline, expression, how to take up space with confidence. Dance isn't just an activity here. It's a language.

2

Faith should be experienced, not just taught.

Our Fruits of the Spirit curriculum gives kids a concrete, weekly theme to live with — not just memorize. Love isn't a vocabulary word. It's how we talk to each other on Tuesday.

3

Small is better.

We didn't build this program to be scalable. We built it to be meaningful. Every camper at Zin Kids is known. That's not a marketing line — it's a structural decision.

A Typical Day

What Does a Tuesday Look Like?

Every afternoon at Zin Kids runs from 12:30 to 4:30 PM and follows a loose rhythm that's consistent enough for kids to feel safe, and flexible enough to stay fun:

  • Arrival + warmup: Music on, energy up. We get moving fast.
  • Dance block: Instruction in the day's style — lyrical, hip-hop, or worship/praise. Real technique, age-scaled.
  • Theme exploration: Scripture reading, discussion, or activity connected to the week's Fruit of the Spirit.
  • Craft / service project: Hands-on making. Often tied to the weekly theme (a patience craft, a kindness project).
  • Freestyle + wind-down: Open movement, journaling, reflection. Campers leave grounded, not exhausted.
